When you travel, do you like to look beyond the facade of a destination and really get to know it? What brings a place alive is connecting with its people, trading stories and finding those little gems that make a place unique. Queenstown, known as the “Adventure Capital of the World” has not only heart-stopping scenery at every turn but plenty of ways to get your heart pumping.
On the Queenstown Personal Tour, join me as I show you around to the most beautiful spots to snap an Instagram shot, best cafes for homemade treats, where to get the best coffee, pretty walks, interesting local art galleries, must-do adventures, top wineries — whatever tickles your fancy. It’s a relaxed and flexible way to enjoy one of the coolest resort towns in the world at your own pace with none of the hassles – perfect if you don’t want to bother with a rental car (especially if you’re not used to driving on the left side of the road!). Here’s an example of what a typical day might look like:
Queenstown Personal Tour: Sample Itineraries
Wilderness Queenstown Personal Tour: Arrowtown/Glenorchy/Dart River Wilderness Safari
Today, I’ll personally show you the sights of Queenstown and the greater area with a bit of adrenaline thrown in. We start with a visit to Arrowtown, a beautiful historic gold miners town that’s well worth a wander down the main street. Next, we’ll drive out towards the head of Lake Wakatipu. This stretch of road from Queenstown to Glenorchy was recently voted by Lonely Planet as “one of the most beautiful drives in the world” and you’ll see why when we stop at the Bennett’s Bluff lookout. We’ll enjoy a nice picnic lunch by the lake followed by a thrilling jetboat ride up the Dart River. Out of all the jetboat rides around, this is by far the best experience. On our way back from Glenorchy, we can stretch our legs with a short 45-minute walk out to Bob’s Cove to complete the day and I’ll have you back to your accommodation around 5pm.
Best of Queenstown Personal Tour: Lookout/Arrowtown/Bungy Viewing/Gibbston Valley Wine Tasting
This morning I’ll pick you up at your hotel and we’ll drive down the lake to Bennett’s Bluff lookout for a pretty stunning photo stop. We can stop for a short walk along the way or carry on to Arrowtown, a charming town with a rich goldmining history including an old Chinese settlement. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch by the river or local cuisine at one of the nearby restaurants. This afternoon we’ll visit the home of bungy jumping — and jump, if you dare! Then let’s go and find your favourite NZ wine at a few wineries in Gibbston Valley before returning to Queenstown.
